Fire in divan poetry

Discovery of fire is one of the most important thing through the history of humanity. The relevant discovery played an important role during the change and development of human life and culture. The place and importance of fire in the human life ensured to be take part in literary works in process of time. The fire also took part in Divan Poetry with broad and various associations in which almost all life elements mentioned in different ways. The Ottoman poets revealed authentic metaphors and colorful dreams by means of literary arts based upon color, power and effect of fire. In this thesis; the place, usage and features of fire in the Divan poetry and also the effect of Divan poet in the poetry world tried to be set forth on the basis of sample couplets chosen from different Divans belongs to XV.-XIX. centuries. Considering the meaning interest of fire with other words, it has been evaluated by determining metaphors and imagine elements configured around the fire. Through this thesis; the features of fire, its place in religious and Sufi culture and also in mythology, its correlation with general types of Divan poetry, places of fire, metaphors, traditions and beliefs related to fire as one of the elements of Four Elements tried to be evaluated in detail. Analysis conducted text-centric and on the basis of examples. In addition, fire poems with redif (repeated sounds) are annexed.
