A research on the comparative vocabulary of Dîvânu Lugâti't-Türk and Azerbaijani Turkish

In this thesis, the words in Dîvânu Lugâti't-Türk, one of the most important works belonging to the Karakhanid Turkish period, were determined, the phonetic and semantic changes in accordance with the historical development tendencies of Turkish have been examined in Azerbaijan Turkish in particular. In this regard, Besim Atalay's work consisting of a three-volume translation and a one-volume index was used to determine the words in Dîvânu Lugâti't-Türk. The phonetic and meaning changes of the words in Azerbaijani Turkish, which is one of the heirs of Oghuz Turkish, have been determined with a diachronic approach, starting from Dîvânu Lugâti't-Türk, the first and most important dictionary of the Turkish language, which includes extensive information about Old Oghuz. In this context, these developments in Azerbaijani Turkish were evaluated in the light of the information that Kasgarli gave under the Oghuz registered words, about the phoneme, morphology and meaning, including the Oghuz language. The thesis consists of three main parts. In the first part, information about Karakhanids, Karakhanid Turkish, Dîvânu Lugâti't-Türk, Kâşgarlı Mahmut, Azerbaijan Turkish is given. In the second part, phonetic changes from Dîvânu Lugâti't-Türk to Azerbaijani Turkish were examined in detail and classified according to their beginning, intra-verbal and end-of-word positions. In the third part, the words examined in terms of meaning are evaluated under sub-headings such as meaning narrowing, meaning expansion, meaning improvement, meaning worsening, meaning shift, meaning change, meaning change in homonyms.
