Abstract (EN)

Purpose: We aimed to examine the relationship between Diabetic Patient Groups and Cerebral MR Perfusion. Material-method: 52 diabetic patients and 36 healthy control group were included in the study. The diabetic patients were divided into three groups as proliferative retinopathy (PRP), non-proliferative retinopathy (NPRP) and non-retinopathy diabetes (non-RP DM). The imaging processes were performed by using 1.5T Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRG) device. The images were obtained with DSC Perfusion-weighted MR (PW-MR) with T2*-weighted eco planar imaging sequence. The data recorded as a result of imaging were sent to the work station (syngo-via, Siemens Medical systems). The CBF maps were created with raw data obtained with software. The data obtained from region of interest (ROI) from gray substance in the both cerebral hemispheres were proportioned to the data obtained from ROI in the area that was selected as the reference from white substance. Our study uses descriptive statistics for continuous variables, ANOVA for comparing group averages, and Duncan test for determining different groups. The relationship among variables was calculated with Pearson's correlation coefficients. Findings: In our study, it was determined that the rCBF values were regionally lower on both cerebral hemisphere in the NPRP and Non-RP DM groups compared to the other groups and there was no statistically significant difference among the diabetic patient groups (PRP, NPRP and Non-RP DM). Between the diabetic patients and healthy control groups, rCBF values were lower in the diabetic patient group. However, a statistically significant difference was observed in rCBF values in both frontal lobes anterior and inferior, both cingulate gyrus, both temporal lobes medial, right occipital lobe and both thalami. Conclusion: As a result, the regional effects of cerebral perfusion among diabetic groups in T2DM were examined in this study. No significant difference was observed in terms of the regional perfusion values among the diabetic groups. According to the healthy control group, regional hypoperfusion was generally observed in all lobes examined and a statistical difference was determined in the majority of them. Hypoperfusion was prominent especially in the temporal lobe medial (hippocampal) section. Keywords: Diabetes Mellitus, Cerebral Perfusion, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Diabetic Retinopathy
