Abstract (EN)

In order to be planned the optimum conditions of engineering structures; it must be required that formations must be analyzed with the correct data. In this regard, the most important information about media formation can be acquired by dertermin the physical and mechanical properties of the rocks which would be obtained with the tests carried out under the laboratory and field conditions. In this study, in order to determine the mechanical properties of Diyarbakir-Karacadag basalt located in Southeastern Anatolia Region of Turkey's, experimental studies were conducted on samples taken from four areas varying according to the expansion area. Experiments were performed to determine the values of Seismic velocity, Schmidt hardness, apparent porosity, uniaxial compressive strength, indirect tensile strength (Brazilian), modulus of elasticity and Poisson's Ratio on test samples which was prepared. In light of the experimental data obtained, it was concluded that basalt stones can wildly find the area of usage taking place of many materials in both traditional and architecture structures. Being evaluated the test results by regression analysis, the relationships among the density of basalt, porosity, uniaxial compressive strength, indirect tensile strength, modulus of elasticity and Poisson's ratio were investigated depending on P - wave velocity and Schmidt hardness being a non-destructive test method. As conclusion, highly correlated (R²= 0,91 – 0,79) (R²= 0,97– 0,84) and significant relationships were obtained between the values of P - wave velocity and Schmidt hardness determined by non-destructive test methods and the other rock properties (Density, Indirect tensile strength, Uniaxial compressive strength, Apparent porosity, Seismic velocity, Elasticity modulus and Poisson's ratio).
