Determination of the problems related to the forage crops production and range management in district of Kulp in Diyarbakır province

In this study; it was aimed to determine the problems related to the range management and forage crops in Akbulak, Bağcılar, Bayır, Çukurca, Demirli, Düzce, Güleç, Özbek, Temran and Uygur neighborhoods in the Kulp district of Diyarbakır province, and to be a resource for the studies to be carried out for the improvement of agriculture and animal husbandry in the region in the following years. Survey questions were prepared for this purpose and the survey was made by interviewing face to face with one hundred producers live in ten neighbourhoods selected randomly. In the neighborhoods where the study was conducted, it was determined that the farmers were in the 50 and older age group with average of %52, and in the 20-50 age group with an average of %48. On average, %71 of the farmers were primary school graduates, %5 were secondary school graduates, %1 were high school graduates and %2 were university graduates on average, %5 are literate on average, and %16 are literate on average it was found that they did not know. According to the results of survey the most important problem of the producers did not enough knowledge about the forage crops production and, due to high feed prices, insufficient and poor of the meadow-pasture areas, the majority of the producers have used the industrial fodder and straw for the feeding their animals in the region. They stated that the producers did not know about the Pasture Law No. 4342 and they wanted their pastures to be improved by making use of the pasture Law no. 4342. In addition, in this study, it was concluded that solving the problem of thirst in the region, making plans to increase the support given by the state to agricultural production, training the producers about forage crops and animal health will positively affect the agriculture and livestock sector of the region.
