Abstract (EN)

As in the world, in Turkey also, populations have had to emigrate, leaving their livingareas due to various reasons. From 1980 onwards, on intensive migration has beenwitnessed in the Eastern and Southeastern Regions, particularly on account of securityconcerns. To this end, the ministry of Interior Initiated in 1994 a resulation projectreferred to as ?Returning Home and Rehabilitation Project? (RHRP) for thosevoluntarily want to return their villages to be accommodated in the neighbourhood oftheir earlier villages or somewhere suitable.Within the RHRP framework, the necessary investigations were conducted in 1999 inDiyarbakır, Şırnak and Siirt Provinces, and the Aşağıbeyan Hamlet of Buçuktepevillage of the Kulp District. Diyarbakır was designated to be suitable for the Projectarea.In 2001, the construction of 50 houses, were completed and delivered to the holders ofthis right. A total of 45 families are now living in these houses built within the RHRP.The main purpose of the study involves to what extent these houses satisfyphysiological, psychological and social needs of the users. In this respect a postoccupancy evaluation were made by asking open-and closed-end questions to thosefamilies living in these houses along with other supportive data collection methodssuch as observation and interview.The study consist of five chapters.In the first chapter, the introduction to the subject-matter, the aim and importance ofthe study were stressed.In the second chapter, the effects of migration in Turkey especially in the Eastern andSoutheastern Anatolia Regions, the process, aim, scope and principles of the RHRPwere explained.In the third chapter, the study method was explained, followed by the description ofthe study area.In the fourth chapter, is that of the findings. In this chapter, the survey conducted wasevaluated and interpreted.In the last chapter, the results of the study were discussed, and suggestions forprospective houses to be built within such a scheme were presented.Key words: Migration, Returning Home and Rehabilitation Project, Post Occupancyevaluation, user?s satisfaction.
