Developments in digital technology and their effects to design

It is a well known fact that technology has entered into every aspect of our life. However, to question or remember the past and the preceding of these technologies that we use daily in our lives is not among the issues that we care about. To be specific, computer technology, which we use every day or somewhere in our lives, has become so common in our daily lives that none of us can remember the days when there is no computer or digital technology. One of the reasons of the main theme mentioned in the research is to remember the old times, the old technologies, to remind them, and also to explain the changes and effects that are experienced in the design field. In this research, the developments in digital technology and their effects to designing, the works of the artists and designers who have studied traditional and technological developments, and how the works that once taught to be impossible to do has been developed with the contributions of technology are being explored and explained. Graphic design has constantly renewed itself with the introduction of digital technologies and has always developed itself within this innovative environment without ignoring the traditional approach. In the first part, communication period is handled and the areas that existed during this period is discussed in the topics of communication history, texts and symbols, printing and industrial revolution. The innovations that digital technologies bring to social life and the changes that these innovations bring to the understanding of art are examined in the second part. Digital technology and the changes of the graphic design elements which are the first examples of digital design are investigated and the innovations that has been brought by these changes are explained from the technological and sociological point of view. In the third part, historical development of illustrations, animations and computer aided design products in which graphic design has become influential and the developments experienced with the influence of new formations are explained by traditional and technological aspects. Also, the old and new examples are given and the developments and effects experienced are examined and the new developments and collaborations with different disciplines are explained within the scope of the research.
