Abstract (EN)

Cities are the settlements where people have interacted the most from past to present, witness every moment of individuals and carry a common heritage. In our rapidly developing and changing world, important changes are also taking place in cities. Many values, especially historical, cultural, physical, social and environmental, may face loss. In this context, it is extremely important for some institutions and organizations to develop protective policies to ensure that these vital values are transferred to future generations without being destroyed. Therefore, one of the important developments experienced by both national and international organizations to preserve the identity values in cities and transfer them to future generations has been the city museums established in the late nineteenth century. City museums are one of the important institutions established with a unifying structure that introduces and sustains the values of the city by offering a common past to the citizens Furthermore, they approaches the current problems of the city with a solution-oriented approach and also provides education-oriented information transfer. In this respect, a total of seven city museums located in the Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia regions were evaluated within the scope of the study. The reason why the subject was limited to these regions is that the regions are culturally close to each other, similar interactions are seen, and there are limited scientific studies on city museums in these regions before, and especially there are some deficiencies in fulfilling the function of city museums. The current status of the city museums included in the study, their physical and structural features, status of the works and their display features, management and personnel status, education, social and cultural activities were tried to be conveyed by addressing them. After general information about the museums was conveyed and city museums were introduced, the works specific to the city and reflecting the city were photographed and introduced with their catalogue numbers in accordance with the Art History perspective. In this context, the necessity of preventing the loss of these values and transferring them to future generations was emphasized by selecting works specific to the city among the works included in the study. Then, an attempt was made to present some suggestions for an ideal city museum by evaluating, comparing and concluding.
