The relationship between the sovereignty of the Eastern Roman Empire in the Mediterranean Region and the Council of Nicaea

The Council of Nicaea takes its place as a major historical event that affected three major phenomena occurring within the territory of our country: Eastern Rome, Christianity, and the Mediterranean Region. This study, after looking briefly at the relationship between Early Eastern Rome and the Council of Nicaea, examines the period until Constantine becomes emperor. Following a discussion of Constantine's attributing his victory during the civil war of Rome to a vision, various perspectives are examined on whether Constantine's Christianity was sincere or motivated by the pursuit of political power. The existence, spread and influence of Christianity in the Roman Empire are explained, and the persecutions caused by the Roman Empire's reaction to Christianity and the results of this opposition are examined. It is seen that the church and the empire affected each other in the Council of Nicaea, which was the result of the existence of the churches in the Mediterranean Region and the theological discussions and debates between the two Mediterranean churches of Alexandria and Antioch. The study briefly touches first upon how the emperor's legacy of authority over the Christian Church also affected the Eastern Roman Emperors, and then focuses on how the Church became stronger in this period. This study attempts an examination of the relationship between the Emperor and the Church in the context of the events of the Council of Nicaea and considers the data on how these two entities affected each other. In this context, the main subject of this study is the two-fold question of whether the Council of Nicaea, one of the important events of the Early Eastern Roman period, gave the emperor authority over the church and how this authority affected the entire Mediterranean Region.
