Abstract (EN)

Main line of this study is consisted by the attitude of the Jewish and Christian traditions against interest institutions throughout the historical process. The conceptual, doctrinal and historical analysis shows that human motives have given to this element a different identity in each period. As an inevitable part of social devastation in every period in which it has played a role as an instrument of exploitation in economical activities, interest has been the subject of various restrictions since the first time it appeared at the historical stage, while a general ban could only be implemented by the Church. The first doctrine that would shake the ban imposed through the Bible was introduced by "Saint" Thomas Aquinas. Thomas's ideas were so developed with the influence of the innovations brought by the era through names such as Luther and Calvin that ideas for the legitimacy of interest grew like an avalanche in the future. At the same time, the enlightenment, was one of the most influential developments in the fading of the canonical rules. Individualist and rational movement that are emphasized, were more dominant than the prohibition as in all sorts of processes that supported personal interests, and the development of capitalism completed the dominance of this idea. Interest is no longer moral, but the subject of economic debates has become one of the mandatory variables of the system. As a result it has gained legitimacy as a phenomenon that nurtures human impulses in the dominance of rationality.
