IV ABSTRACT Doctorate Thesis THE EFFECT OF A CURRICULUM BASED ON AFFECTIVE DIMENSION TO THE AFFECTIVE DEVELOPMENT AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF STUDENTS (A Sample of Adıyaman Province) Ahmet KARA Fırat University The Institute of Social Sciences The Department of Educational Sciences December- 2003, Page: XV + 226 The aim of this study is to determine the effect of a curriculum based on affective dimension on the affective development and academic achievement of Primary School students in Foreign Language Learning. The students of the fifth grade at Cumhuriyet Primary School in Adıyaman province and take English lesson in fall term (2002-2003) were included in this survey. Two groups were formed in each of which 37 students were included. One of the groups was chosen as the experimental group and the other as control group. The survey was planned according to the design with pre-test and post- test control group. The curriculum based on affective dimension was used in the experimental group and the traditional curriculum was used in the control group. The attitude scale of the affective dimension in English course, the achievement test and the observations collected the data. The results obtained are summarized as follows:. There is a significant difference (t= 4.79) between the mean scores of the post-test points of control and experimental groups.. There is a significant difference between the mean scores of lower dimension points of the experimental and control groups, in turn in order "Like" (t= 4.77), "Interest and Curiosity" (t= 4.61), "Desire and Expectation" (t= 6.51) and "Anxiety" (t= -11.14). Considering the obtained results, one of the recommendations is as follows:. As a result of this survey, it was understood that the curriculum based on affective dimension affect the affective development and academic achievement of students in positive direction.
