Abstract (EN)

Aim: Evaluation of QT dispersion (QTd) frequency, it?s cardiac effects and the relationship between QTd, biochemical, hematological parameters and patient?s characteristics among patients on regularly dialysis programme.Materials and Methods: Sixty patients undergoing dialysis (30 HD, 30 CAPD) and thirty healthy person were enrolled into the study. Blood samples were collected from patients before dialysis sesion and healthy subjects. 12 lead electrocardiography was obtained in the from all participants. QTc was measured by Bazett?s Formula and also frequency of QTd was determined at the same ECG.Results: Mean age of dialysis group was 39.45±15.18 years, and control group was 44.43±16.7 years (p>0.05). QTd, was statistically significantly higher in dialysis group than control group (p<0.05),SBP, Urea, Ferritin and CRP were statistically higher (p<0.05), and Ca++ and TIBC were statistically lower in patients who had QTd >50 ms than QTd < 50 ms (p<0.05).Frequencies of QTc, QTd, QTcd, and high Cornell product and high Sokolow-Lyon Voltage were statistically significantly higher in dialysis group than control group (p<0,05). Positive correlation was found between QTd and SBP, Urea, Ferritin and Sokolow Lyon voltage, a negative correlation was found between QTd and Ca++ and TIBC (p<0.05).Conclusion:In dialysis group QTd was found higher and more frequent than control group. Since increased QTd is associated with elevated risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, to prevent from cardiovascular events, it shall be the goal to achieve lower systolic blood pressure, serum levels of urea, ferritin, normal levels of CRP and normal levels of Ca++ among dialysis patients.Key words: Dialysis patients, Dialysis therapy, QTd, Left ventricular hypertrophy.
