Post-divorce adjustment of adolescents of divorced parents

The aim of the present study is to explore whether resilience in adolescents predict their post-divorce adjustment and to analyze whether there is a significant difference in terms of various demographic variables in post-divorce adjustment of adolescents. Within this framework, the Adolescent Post-Divorce Adjustment Scale has been developed with the data obtained from 437 and 271 adolescents for exploratory and confirmatory analysis, respectively. Focus group of the study involve secondary school students whose parents were officially divorced and students were 9th,10th and 11th graders. The study group includes 358 adolescents that undergone the procedures in order to determine whether the points of the Adolescent Psychological Resilience Scale predict the points of the Adolescent Post-Divorce Adjustment Scale and whether post-divorce adjustment shows a significant difference in terms of some variables. According to the findings, a structure made up of six dimensions and 31 items have been revealed; it was concluded that the Adolescent Post-Divorce Adjustment Scale has sufficient psychometric features to measure the level of post-divorce adjustment. Another result for the research indicates that subcategories of the Adolescent Psychological Resilience Scale, family support, sense of struggle, and empathy predict the adolescents' post-divorce adjustment significantly. In addition, it was found that adolescents' post-divorce adjustment levels differ significantly according to gender, the frequency of seeing the parents whom the adolescents don't live together, socio-economic conditions and the relationship of the parents with each other; but doesn't differ significantly according to the person the adolescents live with.
