Literature and museum: The museum of innocence as a novel and a museum

The Museum of Innocence is not only the name of the last published book of Orhan Pamuk: it also is the name of an actual museum which is to be opened soon. The starting point of this study was the author's idea of building a museum, as was mentioned in the novel The Museum of Innocence, and converting it into a genuine space in Istanbul. Since the argument of transforming the fictive world into reality made the disciplines of literature and museology work side by side, the subject has been considered convenient for a comparative literature study. Four main topics, memory, space, time and objects have been chosen in order to analyse them as components in literature and in the museum. By following this methodology, Orhan Pamuk?s novel The Museum of Innocence has been studied both as a fictive novel and as a museum space. Thus, the aim of this study, "Literature and Museum: The Museum of Innocence as a Novel and a Museum," is to propose a different reading by using the hints directly given by the text.
