Abstract (EN)

Edirne is a city that has maintained its status as one of the important strategic locations of the Ottoman Empire and the Republic of Turkey in the European region from the past to the present. The city, shaped by the Meriç River, has formed our border with the Balkans. Edirne also belongs to the Eastern Thrace branch of the Rumelian dialects. Balkan Turks settled in these lands as a result of some oppression and persecution they experienced in the past. The majority of the population living in our research region consists of immigrants from the Balkan countries; this situation has inevitably left effects on the language characteristics of the local and immigrant population. In Edirne, which is considered a transition region, immigrant dialects bearing traces of countries such as Greece, Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Romania were encountered in addition to the "Gacal" dialect, which refers to itself as local. We have considered Edirne province, which has more than one dialect feature, in the scale of "Meriç Center and villages" dialects. In this study, we examined the Meriç dialect phonetically and morphologically. In line with these examinations, we tried to determine the place of the Meriç dialect among the Turkish dialects of Turkey. With the idea that it will contribute to the Turkish dialect atlas, which is one of the aims of dialect studies, and that it will be effective in determining the phonetic and morphological features within the scope of Balkan Turkish dialects, we had the opportunity to contact many people by going to the field, and we managed to record their dialect features with the compilations we made. We have created the transcriptions of the compilations we have made, and we have also examined their phonetics and morphology; we have also added a dictionary to the end of our study. Our study consists of the following main sections: "Introduction", "Analysis", "Conclusion", "Texts" and "Dictionary".
