Abstract (EN)
n our country and many other countries especially in western countries, living alone, delaying marriage and being single are increasing. The single population of young and middle-aged people is continuously increasing, single people have become a social group. The purpose of this study is to investigate the loneliness and life satisfaction in single individuals, relationship between loneliness and life satisfaction, coping with loneliness, effects of styles for coping with loneliness on life satisfaction by comparing with married individuals. Loneliness, which is a painful warning that a person's social relationships are significantly inadequate, is often disturbing and sad. When loneliness is severe and prolonged, it can endanger the mental health of the person, prepare the ground for depression and increase the risk of suicide. Although loneliness, which is an emotional, psychological and universal experience, is a very old experience for a person who is a social being, more loneliness is experienced today than in the past in the modern world. Therefore, it is very important to investigate the effects of loneliness in the life of the ever increasing single population. In this study, in which qualitative research method was used, the data were obtained with a semi-structured interview technique with 30 people. The results of the study showed that single individuals experienced loneliness more intensely than married individuals, had lower life satisfaction, had difficulties in coping with loneliness and developed negative coping styles that might lead to more intense loneliness.
