Abstract (EN)
The current study was designed to investigate the alteration of adenosine deaminase (ADA) levels in renal failure patients on hemodialysis treatment and examine ADA's relationships with lipid profile parameters, renal function parameters, and glucose. For this purpose, the study was included 60 renal failure patients on hemodialysis treatment and controlled with 30 healthy individuals of compatible age. The level of ADA was evaluated by using an enzyme linked immuno sorbent assay (ELISA) kit while urea, uric acid, creatinine, triglycerides (TGs), total cholesterol (TC), HDL, LDL, VLDL, and glucose were evaluated by using spectrophotometric methods. The level of ADA was significantly (P<0.05) higher in hemodialyzed patients compared to healthy control. Additionally, hemodialyzed patients have shown significant (P<0.05) elevated levels of urea, creatinine, TGs, LDL, and VLDL compared to healthy control. On the other hand, HDL and glucose were significantly (P<0.05) lower in hemodialyzed patients than in control. Furthermore, ADA in hemodialyzed patients showed a negative weak correlation with urea and creatinine in their serum. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) test indicates the usefulness of using ADA as a marker in the prognosis of renal failure with excellent sensitivity. In conclusion, ADA is elevated upon the treatment with hemodialysis and it may contribute to a subsequent immune dysfunction.
