The issues encountered in the voice training course taught in the department of music education at the faculty of education

This research aims to identify the problems encountered in the voice training course taught in the Music Education Department of the Faculty of Education, based on both student and instructor perspectives, and to determine the impact of these problems on the educational process. While the voice training course is crucial for developing the skill of using the voice correctly, which is a fundamental ability for the teaching profession, various challenges and difficulties are encountered during the course. This study aims to contribute to identifying these issues in the voice training course and to offering solutions, thereby supporting the professional development of music teacher candidates. It also emphasizes the importance of ensuring that both students and instructors gain the maximum benefit from the educational process. The research utilizes content analysis, one of the qualitative research methods. The study group, selected using the stratified sampling method, consists of seven instructors teaching the voice training course in Music Education Departments of Education Faculties in different regions of Turkey. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with the instructors as the data collection tool. The data were analyzed using the theme-code method. As a result of the research, it was found that instructors in the Music Education Department of the Faculty of Education use various resources in the voice training course, but these resources are insufficient, and there is no shared repertoire among universities. The main problems identified include the inadequate duration of the course, the lack of accompanists, and the low student skill levels. It is believed that the low student level is due to the 800,000-barrier threshold. Proposed solutions include extending the course duration and addressing vocal health issues.
