The comparison of the levels of sialic acid in ectopic pregnancy and missed abortion

In this study our aim was early diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy and missed abortion, take measure to occurence of disease, to determine the effect of sialic asid levels to protect from the disease, if possible, develop measures to prevent from ectopic pregnancy. The patients admitted to Department of Obstetric and Gynecology, Gaziantep University Faculty of Medicine, between March 2013-March 2014 the women who had been diagnosed ectopic pregnancy, missed abortion and under 12 weeks pregnant women were compared in the levels of total sialic acid. For this, 30 patients with diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy, 30 patients with diagnosis of missed abortion and 20 healty women under 12 weeks pregnany were selected. In this three groups, the levels of total sialic acid(TSA), human chorionic gonadotropin hormone (hCG), progesterone, body mass index (BMI), age, c-reactive protein (CRP), white blood cells (WBC) as well as some biochemical parameters were evaluated. In statistical evaluation of data were performed Mann Whitney-U test and Student t test. P value <0.05 was accepted as significant. In the control group between patient groups TSA levels compared to a statistically TSA levels of patient groups, found significantly higher(p = 0,001). Age, BMI, obstetric parameters, hg, wbc count, platelet count, and serum creatine, AST, ALT, albumin were no significant differences between the levels. In the control group, the levels between urea and TSA there was moderate positive correlation (r= 0,481, p=0.032), and patient group 2 the levels between progesterone and TSA moderate, there was a positive correlation (r=0,402, p=0,028). This study is the first report of TSA can have a role in the pathogenesis of ectopic pregnancy and missed abortion. In our study, when we compare the control group with the patient groups, the levels of sialic acid was significantly higher. When we compare the ectopic pregnancy group and the missed abortion group, there were no significant differences between the levels of serum sialic asid.
