Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted to determine the fluid consumption habits and hydration status of the athletes in the elite football team. The study was conducted on 102 athletes (26 female and 76 male) aged 16 and over, who agreed to participate voluntarily in an elite sports club between December 2022 and May 2023. In the study, all athletes were formed to determine their demographic information, the status of getting advice from a dietician and their application, the status of receiving advice on fluid consumption and their knowledge level about fluid consumption, their fluid consumption habits, and their fluid consumption habits before, during, and after exercise/competition. The form was applied by face-to-face interview method. Anthropometric measurements and urine analyzes of the athletes participating in the study were measured and recorded by the researcher. While 97.1% of the athletes stated that it is necessary to have an effective fluid intake strategy, 2.9% stated that it is not necessary. It was determined that 5.9% of the athletes did not consume beverages before training/competition, and 94.1% did. It was determined that 100% of the athletes consumed beverages during training/competition. It was determined that 3.9% of the athletes did not consume beverages daily or after training/competition, and 96.1% did. The USG measurements of the athletes were 1.012,92±0.05.97 g/mL in women, 1.012,66±0.03.84 g/mL in men, and 1.012,73±0.04.45 g/mL in all athletes. There is no statistically significant difference between female athletes and male athletes in terms of USG measurements (p>0.05). A statistically significant difference was determined between UCC measurements and the status of receiving education and advice about fluid consumption in male athletes (p<0.05). UCC, USG measurements are higher in men who have not received advice/education about fluid consumption before. When all athletes are evaluated; UCC measurement is higher in those who have not received advice/education on fluid consumption before. A statistically significant correlation was observed between the beverage consumption measurements of the athletes for training and competition and the USG measurements (p<0.05). There is a negative, statistically significant relationship between water consumption and UCC measurement in athletes (p<0.05).
