Afyonkarahisar and its vicinity from the earliest ages until the Persian period

As it is known, Anatolia is the one of the important civilization centers of Ancient Near East. Afyonkarahisar and its vicinity form the one of the important regions of Anatolia.Afyonkarahisar and vicinity were settled from the neolitic age and it went on to last its importance in the Calcolithic and Early Bronze Age.The Hittites who were the greatest political power of Anatolia in the Second Millenium B.C. ruled Afyonkarahisar and its vicinity, too. Afyonkarahisar and its vicinity was called as Mira-Kuwalia Land on the Hittite cuneiform texts. Towards the ends of the Hittite Kingdom, Mira-Kuwalia Kingdom began to act indepently. But, when the Hittite Kingdom was fallen down because of Sea Peoples Migration, Mira-Kuwalia Kingdom was drawn from the history scene, too.After the Hittites, Afyonkarahisar and its vicinity entered under the sovereignty of Phrygians. When the Kimmerians who were the one of the Prototurk peoples destroyed the Phrygian Kingdom in 690 B.C., Afyonkarahisar and its vicinity lived under the rule of the Kimmerians for a time. Alyattes, the king of Lydia, drove away the Kimmerians from Anatolia in 609 B.C. and so, Afyonkarahisar and its vicinity entered under the sovereignty of Lydian Kingdom.When Kyros, the king of Persia, defeated Kroisos, the king of Lydia, in 546 B.C., Afyonkarahisar and its vicinity will enter under the rule of the Persians.
