The investigation of the anatomical and ecological characteristics of endemic species Erysimum vuralii yild.

Objective: The aim of this thesis is to determine the anatomical and ecological characteristics of the endemic Erysimum vuralii Yıld. species from the Brassicaceae family. Material and Method: Soil samples were taken from the habitat of E. vuralii, which is naturally distributed in a very limited area on serpentine rocky slopes in a Pinus brutia forest clearing between Hamitköy and Ekincik, Muğla/Köyceğiz. Soil samples were sieved with a 2 mm sieve, placed in a polyethylene bag and stored in a cool place. They were analyzed in the laboratories of Aydın Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry. Herbarium specimens were prepared from E. vuralii species. Plant samples taken from the field for anatomical studies were placed in 70% ethyl alcohol solution and preserved in a cool environment. Root, stem and leaf sections were taken and anatomical structures were revealed by light microscopy. Results: Ecological requirements and anatomical structure of E. vuralii were determined in the study. The species is distributed on soils weathered from serpentine bedrock. They prefer slightly alkaline, low in lime and salt-free habitats. Iron and magnesium were found to be very high in the soil. The presence of secondary structure in the root was detected. The stem has a slightly angular structure. In cross-section, there is a thick layer of cuticle at the outermost part of the stem. In the leaf, the upper and lower epidermis consisted of one row of large, rectangular epidermal cells. Stomata were observed in both epidermis. Stomata are more numerous in the lower epidermis. The stomatal type was anisocytic, which is characteristic for Brassicaceae family taxa. Conclusion: The studied species is endemic in the Mediterranean phytogeographic region on soils weathered from serpentine bedrock and has a very limited distribution. It has a fragile structure in terms of habitat. The most important factors threatening the future of the species are fire and tourism pressure. In this study, the ecological requirements of the species were determined and its anatomical structure was revealed. These data will be an important source for future species action studies.
