Transferability of Industry 4.0 to developing countries: The case of Turkey

The industrialization journey that started with the First Industrial Revolution in the eighteenth century has entered a new era with the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The industrialization process, which started with the invention of the steam engine, moved to the second phase with the use of electricity and mass production systems at the beginning of the twentieth century, and the third phase started with the introduction of information technologies that brought technology to a higher level in the 1970s. In 2011, the 4th Industrial Revolution, which was a new process and also called Industry 4.0, emerged with the use of Industry 4.0 components based on cyber-physical systems in production. Today, developed countries shape their economies according to the Industry 4.0 process, but the possibility of developing countries to fall behind this process causes concerns that global inequality increases further. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the transferability of Turkey 4.0 technology industry in particular, developing countries to assess challenges and opportunities they face in the process. The fact that the writing on this subject is very limited constitutes the main motivation of the thesis. After the first part of this study and Industry 4.0 Industry 4.0 Concept components are briefly reviewed, it will be discussed the development of industrial processes in the world and Turkey 4.0. In the following sections, the impact of Industry 4.0 on the economy, especially on macro variables, will be discussed, and the transferability of previous industrial revolutions and Industry 4.0, which is our main subject, to developing countries will be examined. In the last chapter, we will complete our thesis Industry 4.0 The survey evaluating our work on the feasibility and transfer to Turkey.
