The design criteria of reused industrial buildings by means of examples from Istanbul

Buildings have been made for humans needs. Buildings which are not used anymore have been lost their existence. This is why abandoned buildings are in danger of dilapidation. If we didn't update buildings, as a result of technological, social and cultural developments, buildings which are sub-standart are in danger of extinction. Buildings which have cultural memory that are cultural identity and continuity of the heritage, have to have some changes to adopt the new identity. During these changes, by protecting the cultural values of this transformation, importance should be given according to social value of the re-functioning process. Industrial buildings which are the reflection of peoples life style and the processing of production, are named of industrial herritage. Industrial herritage are important because of having technical information, social, cultural and architctural characterictics. After losing of functioning, buildings have been started to vanish and they are effected by loosing their values. This is obvious that, in this situation, industrial buildings and industrial spaces are need to be re-considerated. In our country there are only 43 out of 256 industrial herritage buildings left from Ottoman Empire era. Because of the vast majority of the buildings are in İstanbul, the anlysis city has been chosen as İstanbul. one of the main point for choosing research topic as re-useing process of industrial heritage buildings is needing of detectioning the transformation criterias. In this aim, some of the evaluation criterias are identified for re-using industrial herritage building. In this research Kasımpaşa Tuz Ambarı and Bakırköy İspirtohane ve Kültür Merkezi which are located in İstanbul, has been handled from the samples within the scope of the industrial herritage, and the detailed information has been given about the design criterias after reusing of the building.
