Abstract (EN)
This study was conducted as a descriptive study in order to determine the opinion of parents with children with epilepsy about the management of the disease at home and the quality of life of the child. 100 children aged 6-18 years, who were followed by the Neurology Unit of Kayseri City Hospital, diagnosed with epilesy for at least three months, used antiepileptic drugs, had at least one seizure, and went to school, and their parents were included in the study area. Data were collected using the socio-demographic data form, the family's home epilepsy management form, and the quality of life scale for children. The data were evaluated in SPSS Statistics V26 program. 62% of the children participating in the study were between the ages of 6-12, mostly boys. It was observed that 47% of the parents were "20-30 years old, 44% were university graduates".Age of parents and parents gender, family history of epilepsy, history of febrile seizures, having information about education and rehabilitation centers for epilepsy,marital status, place of residence, income level, number of children, chronic disease status, quality of home and children. It was determined that there was no statistically significant difference between the mean scores of the sub-variables of the quality of life scale (p>0.05). Again, it was seen that there was no significant difference between the child's age, gender, whether she had a room of her own, the place where she lived, and the mean scores of the scale sub-variables. (p>0,05). It was determined that there was a significant difference between the frequency of epileptic seizures, the child's participation in social activities with the family, status and the quality of life of the child's sleep status (p<0.05). Epilepsy, which is a chronic disease, is a condition that affects quality of life for the child and her family. It is recommended to organize education about the disease.
