An investigation of acculturative stress and general self-efficacy levels of Turkish university students studying abroad through the Erasmus Program according to certain variables

In this study, it was aimed to examine whether acculturation stress sub-dimensions and general self-efficacy levels of Turkish university students who went abroad with Erasmus programme differ according to demographic characteristics and whether acculturation stress sub-dimensions differ according to general self-efficacy levels. The study was carried out with a total of 354 university students at associate, undergraduate and graduate level who voluntarily participated in the Erasmus programme in Turkey and benefited from the Erasmus programme in the last 5 years. In the study, data were collected from the participants by using the Demographic Information Form including personal information and questions about Erasmus processes, the Acculturation Stress Scale and the General Self-Efficacy Scale. In the analysis of the collected data, Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis tests were used to examine the demographic characteristics and to examine the differentiation of acculturation stress sub-dimensions according to general self-efficacy levels. The study found that acculturation stress sub-dimensions and general self-efficacy levels differed significantly depending on the duration of Erasmus mobility. Moreover, students with low self-efficacy levels scored significantly higher in all sub-dimensions of acculturation stress compared to the high self-efficacy group.
