Abstract (EN)

Today, mental health problems and the effects of global epidemics such as the pandemic, which are its triggers, on adolescents are relatively more devastating and it is more important to protect and rehabilitate adolescents from cognitive, emotional and social aspects. Therefore, the importance of psychological interventions and positive youth programs that will nurture the positive aspects of adolescents during and after the pandemic is inevitable. In this context, the aim of this study is to examine the relationship between hope, determination and self-efficacy character strengths and depression levels of adolescents and to present a literature-based model proposal to explain the mechanism by which these variables affect the depression level. The study group of the research consists of a total of 750 students, 491 girls and 259 boys, who continue their high school education in the center of Van. High school students from different grade levels (9,10,11,12th grade) and school types (Science, Anatolian, Vocational and Imam Hatip) participated in the research. The Continuous Hope Scale, the Perseverance Scale, the Children's Self-Efficacy Scale and the Beck Depression Scale were used to collect the research data. The research was carried out with the relational scanning model. SPSS Statistics 25 and AMOS 24 programs were used for analysis. The model proposed within the scope of the research has been tested with structural equation modeling and verified with acceptable fit values. It was determined that the fit indexes of the model developed in the study gave good fit and the coefficients obtained were statistically significant. As a result, in the alternative model developed in this study, perseverance increases hope, increasing hope increases self-efficacy, and increasing self-efficacy reduces depression and becomes a protective factor against depression. Keywords: positive psychology, hope, perseverance, self-efficacy,depression.
