Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to determine the relation between the cultural value of masculinity femininity and the women's career obstacles according to the perceptions of teachers working in public primary schools. The research was conducted by collecting data from teachers working in public primary schools affiliated to the Siirt National Education Directorate. The population of the research consists of teachers working at primary schools in Siirt city center, Kurtalan, Pervari and Tillo districts determined according to their socio-economic development levels. It includes 1067 teachers working at 168 schools. The sample of the research was determined by applying the "stratified sampling" method proportionally to the number in the population. In order to determine the cultural value of masculinity-femininity orientations of teachers, "Individual Cultural Values Scale (CVSCALE)" developed by Yoo, Donthu and Lenartowicz (2011) based on Hofstede's cultural values dimensions was used. Turkish adaptation of the scale was done by Saylık (2019). In addition, consisting of 7 dimensions and containing 38 statements "Glass Ceiling Scale" developed by Karaca (2007) was used to measure the women's career obstacles. According to the results of the research, teachers are closer to feminine cultural values. It has been determined that there is a high level of positive correlation between the cultural value of masculinity and career obstacles. It is concluded that women's perceptions of masculinity cultural value have a significant effect on their perceptions of career obstacles. Thereafter, there is a significant relation between women's relative negative attitudes towards their careers and values of masculinity-femininity adopted through cultural socialization. While there is no significant difference between the teachers' cultural value of masculinity-femininity level and variables of duty, education level, age, seniority and place of residence; a significant difference has been found out according to the variables of gender, marital status and family type where they were brought up. In the study, while there is no significant difference between the teachers' perceptions of career obstacles and family type where they were brought up; a significant difference has been found out according to the variables of gender, marital status, duty, education level, age, seniority, and family structure in which they were brought up.
