The determination of stress, depression and anxiety levels of expectant father

This study is a descriptive study which is planned to determine the stress, depression and anxiety states of the candidates of father whose wife will give birth. The study is carried out in Gaziantep Private NCR international Hospital between 01.03.2017 and 30.10.2018 at the obstetrics service. The husbands of pregnant women arriving at the NCR hospital in the center of Gaziantep are known to have good communication skills and have no chronic and psychiatric disorders. A total of 157 father candidates whose wives are pregnant are accepted to participate for this study and they are taken as the subjects.The data are collected by using the Introductory Information Form, "DASÖ" Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale and State / Trait Anxiety Scale which are arranged by the researcher and evaluated on the computer by appropriate statistical methods. According to the evaluations, when the DAS status of the father candidates are examined, it is found that majority of the father candidates' stress situation are normal. While about 1 in 10 is stressed, the majority are not stressful. According to the findings, while 89.2% of the father candidates have a normal level of stress, 10.7% are stressed. 75.2% have no anxiety, but, 24.9% have anxiety. On the Other hand, 82.2% have no depression, 17.9% have depression. İn accordance with these rates, it may be told that father candidates indicate symptoms in process of their wives pregnancy. When the average of stres increases it is observed that anxiety, depression and average continuous score increase and there is a statistically significant difference between them. The father candidates whose wives give birth are to be with their wives. It may help their wives to feel beter.
