The functions's morpheme of "Kendi" in old Anatolian Turkish

In this study, the functions of kendi morpheme in today's Turkish were examined. Firstly, the approaches on Binding Theory and kendi morpheme were evaluated and interpreted. The data obtained from the examined studies were used in this study to determine which functions kendi morpheme was used in. It has been discussed in which functions kendi and kendisi morphemes are used within the context of Binding Theory and what kind of features these functions have are examined with examples. With the examined studies and tested examples, it has been determined that kendi morpheme has reflexive pronouns, pronouns, intensifiers (focal), modifiers and resumptive pronouns functions. In the second stage of the study, the usage area of the functions of today's Turkish in Old Anatolian Turkish was examined with examples obtained from Edviye-yi Müfrede written in the 14th century, Dede Korkut book from the 15th century and Münebbihü'r-RÀkìdin, which was written in the same period. As a result of the examination created in the texts of the period, it was concluded that kendi morpheme was no longer resumptive pronoun in this period, but was used in other functions. Moreover, it has been reached to conclusion that kendi morpheme is used pronouns by appearing as a noun in subject position and as a head in noun phrases, unlike today's Turkish.
