The effect of home- based family involvement program on the early literacy skills of preschool children in Kosovo

This research aimed to develop a "Home Based Family Participation Program" to improve early literacy skills and to evaluate the impact of this program. In the study, a 2x3 experimental model was used to examine the effectiveness of the program, including pretest, posttest, and permanence test measurements, as well as experimental and control groups. The experimental group of the research consisted of families and children who participated in the "Home-Based Family Participation Program," while the control group included families and children who were not part of the program. A 12-session "Home-Based Family Participation Program" developed by the researcher was implemented for the experimental group. No intervention was applied to the control group. Research data were collected separately from both families and children. To evaluate the effects of the program on families, the "Home Early Literacy Environment Scale," "Early Literacy Home Environment Scale," and "Parental Reading Beliefs Scale" were administered. "The Early Literacy Test" (EROT) was used to assess the effects of the program on children's early literacy skills. It has been concluded that the program is effective in enhancing children's early literacy skills. The study found that the post-test and retention test scores in the experimental group were significantly higher than the pre-test scores. In contrast, no changes were observed in the pre-test, post-test, and retention test scores in the control group. The study revealed that the Home Based Family Participation Program had significant effects on the experimental group, indicating that the program supports early literacy processes.
