Examination of the reflections of the universal design-based gender role program on university students

The aim of this research is to examine the reflections of the universal design-based gender role program on university students. The research aimed to raise awareness among the participants within the scope of the Universal Design Based Gender Role Program and gender equality, which is one of the goals of sustainable development. The research was carried out with the nested mixed design, which is one of the mixed research designs. The study group of the research consists of 15 female (%83,3) and three male (%16,7) university students studying at a foundation university in the 2021-2022 academic year. Data collection tools of the research were Gender Roles Attitude Scale, focus interview, reflection writings and learning diary. The collected quantitative data were analyzed with the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test in the SPSS program. The analysis of qualitative data was carried out with content analysis technique. The quantitative findings of the study showed that there was no statistically significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores of the participants in favor of the posttest, egalitarian gender role, gender role of women, gender role in marriage sub-dimension. Total points; revealed a statistically significant difference in favor of the posttest between the traditional gender role and the male gender role sub-dimension total scores. The qualitative findings of the study revealed that the studies on gender roles have effects on increasing the perspective and awareness of the participants, and the planning of the program with an educational design model based on the contribution of the participant increases the motivation of the participants.
