The repercussions of three treatises attributed to Fārābī in Hüseyin Atay

In the tradition of Islamic philosophy, Fārābī has the reputation of muallim-i sānī (second teacher) with the ideas and theories he has advanced. However, the lack of definitive information about his life and treatises has caused the problem of the authenticity of the treatises attributed to him. This situation has brought about the question of whether the ideas and theories attributed to Fārābī in terms of treatises of questionable authenticity pertain to him. Hüseyin Atay in the work of Creation According to Fārābī and Ibn Sīnā mostly used treatises that have serious doubts about the authenticity. The fact that the treatises that are mostly used to explain Fārābī's idea of creation point to the problem of authenticity in his work. In our study, primarily, the theory of creation in al- Fārābī is clarified from his treatise el-Medīnetu'l Fāḍıla, which maintains its authenticity. Afterwards, in the light of the assessments made on the three suspicious treatises 'Uyūn'ul Mesāil, el-Cem' and et-Ta'likāt within the borders of our study, it is stated that the opinion that these treatises do not pertain to Fārābī is more dominant. As the main subject of our study, Atay's presentation of Fārābī's idea of creation through the questionable treatises he used in his thesis leads to the conclusion that it is not compatible with Fārābī's some concepts and ideas, in the light of his treatises that maintain authenticity.
