Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, the effects of different doses of ozone on the storage quality and life of pomegranate cv. Hicaznar grown in Serik (Antalya) were investigated. Fruit, harvested at optimum harvest time (color, size, etc.), were transported immediately to the post harvest physiology laboratory of Horticulture Department, in the Faculty of Agricultural Sciencesand Technology, at the Isparta University of Applied Sciences. After pre-cooling with air, the fruit were divided in to 7 groups. Different doses of ozone (0.5, 1, 2 and 3 ppm) and 0.9% prochlorase (N-propyl-N- [2- (2,4,6-trichlorophenoxy) ethyl] imidazole 1carboxamide) were applied to the first 5 groups of fruit. Ozone treated 3 groups (1, 2 and 3 ppm) and prochloraz treated fruit were placed in MAP but 0.5 ppm ozone treated samples, packaged in plastic boxes, were exposed to same dose every month for 30 minutes (intermittent application) during storage. The last two groups, in which no application was made, were included in the experiment as control groups [(control 1: open), control 2: modified atmosphere bags (MAP)]. After application, fruit were stored at 6 C and %905 relative humidity for 4 months. Weight loss (%), respiration rate (mL. CO2 / kg1. s1), gas compositions in MAP (%), titra table acidity (g 100 ml-1), soluble solid content (%), pH, fruit skin color and sensory analysis were performed in fruit removed from the cold room at 30- day intervals during storage. According to sensory analysis, fruit obtained from intermittent ozone application and 1 ppm ozone + MAP combination were beter than those of control group. In addition, 1 ppm ozone + MAP treatment gave positivere sults for fruit skin color (L * and h °) and respiratory rate, while high-dose (2 ppm, 3 ppm ozone) applied fruit had more negative results than other treatments. As a result, ozone and prochloraz treatments in Hicaznar variety maintained fruit quality compared to control samples during cold storage. Especially, thein termittent ozone has been shown to be an alternative treatment for pomegranate storage. However, higher weight loss occurred in intermittent ozone treatment since MAP could not be used.
