Comparision of the two different intraoral molar distalization appliances

Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this study was to compare the skeletal and dentoalveolar effects of modified Veltri and First Class appliance. The study material consisted of lateral cefalometric films and orthodontics models that have been taken before treatment, after distalization and stabilization periods from 17 males and 23 females, total of 40 patients who have Class II molar relationship on both sides. Twenty subjects (11 females, 9 males) whom were averagely in 13,64±1,46 years old were treated by modified Veltri appliance, twenty subjects (12 females, 8 males) whom were averagely in 13,83±1,43 years old by First Class apliance.2,16 mm. distalization was achieved in 4,29±0,97 months by modified Veltri appliance and 2,42 mm.in 4,20±0,86 months by First Class appliance. The amount of distal tipping was 5,21o in modified Veltri group and 1,19o in First Class group. There was no statistically difference between groups (p>0.05). The amount of anchorage loss by the resiprocal forces at the second premolars and incisors was 4,94 mm, 4,39 mm. in modified Veltri group and 3,35 mm, 1,59 mm. in First Class group, respectivly. There was only statistically difference between groups for incisors (p<0.01). During the stabilization period, upper second premolars and incisors tended to move back to their original places in both groups. On the other hand, distalized first molars in modified Veltri group moved 1,13 mm bact mezially and in First Class group moved 0,3 mm. mezially during the stabilization period.The result of this study revealed that First Class is more preferable appliance than modified Veltri appliance while distalizing molars intraorally.Key words: İntraoral distalization, Class II malocclusion, Hyrax screw, Anchorage
