Abstract (EN)
In order to design a pavement structure, the engineer needs to adhere to certain criteria, such as the type of design to use in order to size the pavement structure correctly. There are different types of pavement structures such as flexible, semi-rigid and rigid pavements. Each pavement has its own shape in terms of layers and materials, and each pavement has its own way of distributing loads in different layers to transmit loads from the top to the final layer. A pavement structure can have different deformations such as cracks (longitudinal and transverse), rutting, cracking, etc. The method considered in this thesis is the finite element method, ANSYS software is used and a flexible pavement structure is considered since today's roads are mostly flexible pavements. The pavement has dimensions of 5000x5000x5000x5000 mm and has different layers (binder, bituminous base, base, and sub-base) and each layer has its own mechanical properties and thickness. In order to study the behaviour of the flexible pavement against deformation, a deformation of the wearing course was considered (25 mm along the course). Different temperatures (-10 and 15°C) and a single pressure (0.700 MPa) were applied to the pavement. The study showed that temperature and traffic loads play a very important role in pavement deformation.
