Abstract (EN)

The caries of the tooth is a cronic disease as the result of the localized and progressive demineralization which appears of the crown and root surface of the teeth. The purpose of the modern dentistry is to succeed non-invasive treatment approach in order to have an invasive treatment. Clinical and experimental researches showed that the initial caries lesions of the enamel have the potention to be remineralized again. The fluoride ion is generally used at prevention of dental caries and providing the remineralization of initial caries lesions. It is suggested to use fluorides for the effect of remineralization at the treatment of initial caries.HealOzone is preferred as a non-invasive procedure for the treatment of initial dental caries lesions and it is especially suggested in pit and fissure, root and servical caries. HealOzone can prevent or slow down the progression of dental caries. HealOzone (Kavo®, Germany) is the first device used for in-vivo and in-vitro studies, using ozone gas in treatment of dental. The 10 or 40 seconds ozone applications provide the remineralization of pit and fissure caries which has no cavitation. HealOzone application can be provided as using HealOzone device by applying to the caries lesion directly followed by the use of HealOzone Remineralization solution and Patient Kit.In this study, it is aimed to compare the microhardness values and Scanning Electron Microscobe (SEM) images after the use of sodium fluoride, amin fluoride and HealOzone application on artificial dental caries lesions of human premolar and molar teeth. Therefore, 60 sound human premolar and molar teeth are used in this study which was extracted for orthodontic reasons. 60 teeth were sectioned longitudinally and 120 specimens were gained. Specimens were embedded in epoxy resin with the cut faces exposed. 120 specimens containing the lingual or buccal tooth surface were covered with varnish leaving a 3x3 mm window. The initial microhardness values of the specimens were measured and 20 specimens were divided into 3 groups with similar to their microhardness values. These 3 groups were Duraphat containing sodium fluoride (Group A), Elmex containing amin fluoride (Group B) and HealOzone?Remineralization Solution?Patient Kit (Group C). Demineralization solution was applied to all the specimens for two days to have artificial caries lesion. After two days of demineralization process, the microhardness values of the specimens were measured. pH cycling regime was performed for 14 days. In this pH cycling regime, first the remineralization materials as Duraphat containing sodium fluoride (Group A), Elmex containing amin fluoride (Group B) and HealOzone?Remineralization Solution?Patient Kit (Group C) and then demineralization solution was applied respectively. The microhardness values of specimens were measured after the application of remineralization materials. The specimens were kept for 14 days at 37?C in incubator to imitate the body heat. The microhardness values of specimens were compared before treatment, after demineralization and after remineralization. Additionally, Scanning Electron Microscobe (SEM) images of 40 specimens belongs to group A, B, C and 40 specimens which was applied demineralization solution for two days to have artificial caries lesions were evaluated. .NCSS 2007 Statistical Software package programme was used to perform the statistical analysis. As a result of this study, all the remineralization materials in Group A, B and C were found to increase the microhardness of demineralized specimens at a statistically significant level. There was a statistically significant increase of microhardness values for HealOzone (Group C) as compared with the Elmex (Group B). In conclusion, all the remineralization materials used in this study were found to have a significant remineralization affect when applied to artificial dental caries lesions of human teeth.Key Words: artificial caries lesion, demineralization, remineralization, HealOzone
