Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT Master Thesis INVESTIGATION OF THE EFFECTS OF WATER DEPTH ON THE INFILTRATION RATE OF SURFACE IN SOILS WITH DIFFERENT TEXTURE Ahmet ERGÜN Tekirdag Namık Kemal University Institute of Science and Technology Biosystems Engineering Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Lokman DELİBAŞ The study was conducted to investigate the effects of surface water depth on infiltration rate in different textured soils in Ergene district of Tekirdağ province in 2019. In this study, infiltration rate of 20 cm, 15 cm and 10 cm water depth was measured with variable level double cylinder infiltrometer in five different soil textures. Measurements were increased from 20 cm water depth to 15 cm water depth, 15 cm water depth to 10 cm water depth, and 10 cm water depth to 5 cm water depth. Tables were created by noting the water depth and elapsed time from the initial water depth at different time intervals. In Excel, exponent regression type was selected, total minute and total infiltrated water measurement data were used in the charts. Graphical curves were formed according to Z = k.ta equation, total infiltration and infiltration rate equations were found. Although the infiltration measurements were limited according to the results obtained in the study, a high correlation was found between soil texture and especially sand content and parameters in infiltration equation. In this study, the effects of soil texture and water depth on infiltration, sandy soils have higher infiltration rate than clay soils, and infiltration rate increases with increasing water depth. Key words: Infiltration, Infiltration rate, Infiltrometer, Soil texture
