The candidate notification inventory development for gifted secondary school students in science

Objective: This research was carried out with the aim of developing a valid and reliable candidate notification inventory that can be applied during the nomination phase of gifted students in secondary school science by teachers, based on Renzulli's triple ring model. Material and Methods: The research was designed according to the descriptive survey model, which is one of the quantitative research methods. The scale development studies from the science teachers in public schools, private schools and BILSEM in Aydın's city center and its districts, and the predictive validity studies from teachers and their students in the years of 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 academic calendar was created as a research sample. An item pool was generated by 66 items for Science Ability Scale, 45 items for Creativity Scale, and 40 items for Task Commitment. Expert opinions were applied for providing the content validity. The exploratory and confirmatory analysis were respectively applied. Five scales were used fort he predictive validity. For contributing to the inventory validity, the scores between some independent variables and three scales of inventory were observed whether they differed or not. Results: The data that acquired in the result of EFA and CFA expresses to be confirmed that each one of the scales consists of one factor. The gifted students got higher scores than the normal students in each one of three developed scales. According to the performance of students in the classroom, gifted students had higher scores than the others' performance level. The students in BİLSEM got higher scores than the students in state schools and private schools. Conclusion: In conclusion, it can be stated that Science Ability, Creativity, and Task Commitment are reliable and valid scale measurement tools and it can be said that the scales are applicable to the nomination phase of gifted students in the field of science in the secondary school period.
