Financial literacy: A study on students of the Yüzüncü Yıl University and Trakya University

The main purpose of this research is to measure the level of financial literacy of university students and to determine the relationship between university students' financial literacy level and the demographic variables used in the research. The sample of the study consists of 252 students studying in Van Yüzüncü Yıl University and Trakya University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. Within the scope of the research, a 38-item Financial Literacy Questionnaire was applied to measure the financial literacy level of students. The data obtained from the survey were analyzed in the SPSS program. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the financial literacy level of the university students participating in the research is at a medium level, and the financial literacy field where the students are the most successful is the tax and legislation, and the financial literacy field where they fail the most is the investment area. In addition, the financial literacy level of male students compared to female students, the financial literacy level of university students who use credit cards, according to students who do not use credit cards, the financial literacy level of students using internet banking compared to third grade students of fourth grade students. It was found that the financial literacy level of students studying in customs, banking and business departments is higher than students studying in other departments. In addition, it was found that financial literacy did not differ significantly in terms of age, participation in the private pension system and education level of parents. These findings have been discussed within the framework of the literature and suggestions have been presented to those concerned.
