Franz Schubert (1797-1828) is a composer who especially known for his lieder. As well as operas, symphonies, works of chamber music, impromptus, dances and piano sonatas are among his compositions. His piano sonatas, in which musical expression has come into prominence besides technical proficiency, occupy a significant place within his piano compositions. In his piano sonatas, he used the traditional sonata form by enriching it with regard to tonally and harmonically. As a lied composer, he conveyed the lyricism found in his lieder into his sonatas. It is particularly felt in his last sonatas. The Piano Sonata in A Major D. 959, among his last piano sonatas, is one of the most important examples that embody these features. In this research, after giving information about Franz Schubert's life, music style, works and piano sonatas, the Piano Sonata in A Major D. 959, which is among his last three piano sonatas, was analysed in terms of musical, formal and technical aspects. This study aims to provide a better understanding and performance of the work for musicians who intend to perform this sonata.
