Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between histopathologic, clinical and demographic data in patients undergoing renal biopsy. The biopsies conducted at Firat University Hospital, Department of Nephrology and interpreted by the Pathology Department of the same institute between 2006-2016 were retrospectively reviewed. All biopsies were evaluated by light and immunofluorescence microscopy. A total of 200 biopsies were evaluated. 103 (%51,5) patients were male, 97 (%48,5) were female. 115 patients were under 40 years old, 72 of them between 40-59 years old and 13 of them were older than 60 years old. The mean biopsy age was 38,8±14,1. Most biopsies were taken between the ages of 18 and 40 years, followed by 40-59 years and lowest frequency were in those older than 60 years of age. 13(%6,5) biopsies were interpreted as being inadequate. The mean glomerulus number was 14,5±8,8. The fewest number of biopsies were taken in 2006 (%5). The highest number of biopsies were in 2010 (%16). Indications for biopsy were nephrotic syndrome (%57,5), followed by non- nephrotic proteinuria (%16), acute kidney failure (%12,5), kidney involvement in systemic disease (%12,5), hematuria (%2,5) and nephritic syndrome (%1,5), respectively. In our study, the most frequently diagnosed renal pathology was primary glomerulonephritis with %63. Secondary glomerulonephritis was %27,5. Focal segmental was the most frequent in primary glomerulonephritis. It was followed by membranous glomerulonephritis, membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis, minimal change disease and IgA nephropathy, respectively. Secondary glomerulonephritis was due to amyloidosis, lupus nephritis and diabetic nephropathy, respectively. There was no relationship between complications and urea, creatinine and PT(INR) levels. There was no significant difference between patients who had complications and those who did not. The result of our study in which renal biopsies, performed during a 10 years period in Firat University Hospital was similar to other large, multicentered series with long follow up. The demographic and clinical findings of our study will contribute to future renal biopsies in our country. Percutaneous kidney biopsy remains important in parenchymal renal disease Key words: Kidney biopsy, epidemiology, glomerulonephritis.
