The analysis of the football referees' confidence levels and level of decesion making

Football attracts great attention in every country of the world and is in the field of interest of billions of people. As a result of this interest, it is true that the economic volume created by football has a large share in the world economy. For this reason, in the developing, changing and globalizing football, it is the common expectation of the public that the results of the competitions will be concluded in the fairest way. It is believed that referees have a great influence on the fair administration, continuation and completion of football matches. In addition to the knowledge and experience of the rules of the referees, their physiological and psychological states are also of great importance in managing a fair match. Although football refereeing is done as a professional job in the top divisions and provides serious income, the number of referees who reach this professionalization rate is quite low. To explain with an example, the number of referees with visa is 6469 in Turkey and only 23 referees work as professionals. For this reason, refereeing becomes a second profession, a hobby or a field of interest for the vast majority of whom they consider their leisure time as a sporting activity. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between the decision-making levels of football referees and their self-confidence levels. The data obtained in the research is planned to be analyzed using the SPSS Windows 25.0 program. Data collection tools will be applied to football referees who are actively working in the provinces of Adıyaman, Mardin, Batman, Bingöl, Diyarbakır, Muş, Iğdır, Ağrı, Siirt, Şırnak, Hakkari, Van, Urfa, Elazığ, Bitlis, Malatya, Tunceli in the 8th Region. . In order to reveal the relationship between the self-confidence levels of football referees who participated in the research voluntarily and their decision-making levels, the survey technique was used to obtain the data. The universe of the research consists of the football referee working in the 8th region (n=850). According to the results of the research, age and refereeing experience were found to be significant determinants of the self-confidence levels of the young football referees, whose self-confidence score is lower. One of the most important reasons for the situation here is that refereeing develops based on experience. As mentioned earlier, knowledge develops through successful experience, and then experience turns into expertise. For this reason, young referees are expected to gain more refereeing experience in order to increase their self-confidence level.
