Informal employment in Gazi̇antep: The effect and solution recommendations

Informal employment, a sub-branch of informal economy, is a complicated and multi-dimensional phenomenon including various activities in terms of its reasons, results and process. The concept of informal employment meaning that workforce is not included any official records and statistics or included incompletely was first used as an informal sector in the Kenya Report within the scope of "World Employment Program" organized by International Labor Organization. Informal employment has appeared as an issue which is discussed a lot and for which solutions should be provided. Not only undeveloped or developing countries but also developed ones confront the problem of ınformal employment. It is important that the dimensions of the issue of informal employment, regarded as a barrier for the economy of Turkey and Gaziantep in particular should, be determined and proposals of solution should be put forward. Informal employment has both negative and positive outputs that have an impact on economy. The effects of the informal employment on particularly on Gaziantep economy have been studied in the study. İt has been tried to develop stratejies towards decreasing informal employment specific to Gaziantep and all across Turkey.
