Abstract (EN)

The purpose of the research is to chronologically explain the application and methods of music therapy and, a through a general assessment, to reveal the place of music therapy in Turkey and other countries worldwide. In this context, the reflection of music therapy in various world cultures is examined, and the methods and techniques developed by leading figures in this field during their respective periods are compiled. The ways in which music therapy has been practiced throughout history have evolved into different forms and have shown significant development. Over time, specific application methods of music therapy have been systematized, and in the present day, numerous application approaches and techniques have been developed and put into practice. Many studies have been conducted in the field of music therapy and in-depth research continues. Due to the historical development and central role of Turkey in the origins of music therapy, contributions to the literature are increasing steadily through research conducted in this field. Starting with the hypothesis that this research will contribute to the literature, the aim is to examine research on music therapy methods and techniques applied from the past to the present, both worldwide and in Turkey. The research is a descriptive study conducted using a qualitative approach. Data collection methods for the study are as document analysis, literature review, observation and interviews. Within the scope of the study, the literature was analyzed chronologically and comparatively the therapy methods applied in Turkey, Europe and worldwide are explained. Therapy methods applied in Türkiye, Europe and the world are explained. In the field of music therapy, the most commonly applied methods and techniques began with the establishment of ''darüşşifas'' during the Seljuk period in Turkey, continuing their development during the Ottoman period, ultimately leading to internationally recognized systems. Present day therapy studies are conducted on a global scale, and methods such Behavioral Music Therapy, Orff Music Therapy, Nordoff Robbins, Active-Passive Music Therapy, have been identified. A literature review and the study's findings indicate that while some research suggests positive effects of music therapy, in other studies, no significant differences have been observed.
