RETROFITTING OF CONVANTIONEL TOOL MACHINE TO PROGRAMMABLE WITH PLC (Phd. Thesis) Mustafa Kemal KÜLEKÇİ GAZİ UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY June 2000 ABSTRACT In manufacturing processes, conventional manufacturing systems are increasingly being replaced by computer aided manufacturing systems(CAM). As a result of this trend in production operations, programmable machine tools are taking the place of classical ones. In the other hand, because of the high costs of the programmable machine tools, conventional machine tools are still being in spite of their disadvantages. An economical solution to this is retrofitting of classical machine tools to programmable machines. In this study a prototype of a press machine is modified to become programmable by using Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC's). For this reason, in addition to the control elements which are used in the application, other intelligent industrial automation elements have been examined. ScinceCode : 626.08.01.
