Abstract (EN)

The preversation of traditional buildings that carry the past to the present day is an important issue in terms of cultural continuity. In this context, serenders one of the most important vernecular architectural examples in the Eastern Black Sea Region, were discussed in the study.The aim of the study is to achieve solutions for the protection, re- functionalization and transfer of present serenders to future generations . The completely forgotten serenders were examined on ecological and sustainability criteria. Within this scope, field surveys were carried out in Surmene, Tonya and Araklı districts of Trabzon Province, where serenders were seen common. 5 serenders were selected from each district and totally 15 serender were examined in their own locations. The relievos of the serendars in three districts were taken, photograped and architectural drawings were made. Identity cards containing information such as architectural expression, visuals, location, building age, current function, neigborhood group, usage status, plan type, construction system, construction area (semi- open and closed area) of the serendars were created. In order to analyze each serender in terms of ecology and sustainability, checklists tables were prepared in accordance with the determined criteria. In the light of the obtained data and observations, the analysis and findings for all serenders were presented in a final genaral table. Solutions were proposed by evaluating the results for the protection of the serenders and transferring them to future generations.
