Abstract (EN)

The objective of this study is to examine the effects of six weeks of core training on the physical performance, neuromuscular fatigue and VO2max of young female volleyball players. The study population comprised 16 female athletes from Istanbul Smaç Sports Club, aged 14-15, 8 in the experimental group and 8 in the control group. In the quasi-experimental design, a pre-test and post-test were applied to the experimental and control groups. The dependent variables encompassed VO2max, sit-and-reach test, vertical jump, Flamingo balance test and Illinois agility test. The independent variable was designated as group (Experimental/Control), with pre-tests incorporated as covariate variables. This study was approved by the IGU ethics committee with the decision number 2024-14-54, and the entire process was carried out within the framework of ethical rules. The findings revealed that core training programmes resulted in significant enhancements in balance (p = 0.029, η² = 0.317) and agility (p = 0.007, η² = 0.442), while exerting no substantial influence on vertical jump (p = 0.963) and VO2max (p = 0.233). The findings underscore the significance of core training, particularly for disciplines that demand balance and agility. However, it is noteworthy that additional training methods may be required to enhance aerobic endurance and explosive power.
