Comparison of advantages and disadvantages of geosynthetics and ground applications

Geosynthetics, which have a wide range of products with the development of technology today, can be explained as a synthetic product obtained by combining the concept of "Geo" in civil engineering applications and the concept of "Synthetic" as a synthetic product obtained by combining the polymers required for geosynthetic production. Although the use of geosynthetic materials is not very old, the use of these products in the world in recent years has been increasing day by day in geotechnical engineering applications as they bring fast, practical and economical solutions. Geosynthetic products are used in many areas such as planning and projecting of all kinds of structures. Since geosynthetics provide advantages rather than disadvantages in environmental civil engineering applications, there is an increase in their applications day by day. Geosynthetics are becoming more and more popular due to their ability to shorten project times compared to other building products, their light weight, long service life and easy transportation. In this dissertation, many studies and applications related to geosynthetics in the field of civil engineering and especially geotechnical engineering have been examined in detail. Comparing the applications made as a result of the examinations, it was observed that these products had much more advantages than disadvantages. Thanks to today's developing technology, it has been seen that the preference of high quality geosynthetic materials and qualified geosynthetic applications for the protection of existing project resources and energy, reducing the risks that may occur, and ensuring sustainability has shown very positive results on the structures.
