Destruction of wetlands in the lakes district and importance in terms of environmental education

With this study, it was aimed to reveal the importance of the destructions on wetlands in The Lakes District in terms of environmental education. In this study, document analysis method which is one of the qualitative research methods is used. The datas which are used in the research were obtained from the internet and library resources with keywords. It was analyzed by content analysis technique. The destructions on wetlands in the Lakes District was selected as a sampling in the destructions of wetlands which is made in Turkey. The studies which is finded in the literatures are showed that the wetlands in The Lakes District were destroyed by drying, polluting and improper live vaccination. In Literatures, there are seen studies showing the biodiversity of Beyşehir and Eğirdir Lakes has been decreased due to the improper live vaccination, the water futures are endangered as a result of excessive and unconscious agricultural irrigation and the lakes are polluted by many factors. Burdur Lake is the most destructed wetland area in the Lakes District. Related studies specify that one third of Burdur Lake dried. With making updates, the content of environmental education topics which are interdisciplinary approach has been examined in the curriculum of science courses in primary education since 2018. In the curriculum of science courses related to the destruction of wetlands; it was seen as "water pollution" in the 5th grade curriculum, and "water cycle and the efficient use of resources" in the 8th grade curriculum. Topics such as drying in wetlands and improper live vaccinations are not included in the subject contents. It is thought that there is not enough awareness and knowledge transfer in the students due to teaching only water pollution. Awareness and knowledge transfer are the main objectives of environmental education and are important for individuals to be grown sensitive to environmental problems. Therefore, it is thought that attitude, ability and participation which are the other aims of environmental education cannot be provided. If the necessary arrangements are made, it is thought that individuals can receive appropriate training on the aims of environmental education (awareness, knowledge, attitude, ability and participation) and damage to wetlands can be prevented.
